Mark your calendars for Friday, September 24. That's the day we kick off The Launch 2.0, the first of a series of webinars which will take place at 10 am on the fourth Friday of each month during the 2021-2022 teaching year. 10:00 AM: Jane McGrath Book LaunchJane Magrath has had a soft spot for APTA ever since headlining for us at our 2007 conference. Join us as she talks about her new book, "Piano Literature for Teaching and Performance," a resource book with information about composers and compositions from the Baroque to Contemporary period. The text features listings from under-rated composers, women composers, and newer works by living composers, their biographies, musical characteristics, and pedagogical considerations, with suggested grade levels 1-10. APTA members who attend the session will get a discount on the first edition of the book, hot off the presses in November 2021. 11:15 AM: APTA Annual General MeetingJoin us to hear reports from the APTA executive and other business. Agenda will be sent out prior to the meeting. 1:00 PM: Scholarship Presentations & Creative Music Writing Competition ConcertWe're excited to recognize our scholarship winners and enjoy the compositions of students across the province. 2:00 PM: Philip Johnston Presents "Rethinking the Practice Revolution: A Live Brainstorming Session for the Updated Edition"It has been 20 years since Philip Johnston wrote his hugely popular book, "The Practice Revolution: Getting great results from the six days between music lessons." So much has happened since then -- social media, digital scores, Youtube, SoundCloud, individualized playlists, virtual symphony orchestras and Steinways-on-demand notating in real-time whatever is played into portable devices, and most recently, the great teach-by-Zoom experiment. Our students are a generation of digital natives, deeply immersed in computer games, their attention fractured in multiple directions, and we are faced with the challenge of both reaching them and teaching them the necessary skills which will help them to be disciplined, independent, lifelong learners. Join Philip as he brainstorms ideas for the book's revision. This is more than just a webinar. It's an invitation by the author to assist him, by virtue of a question and answer session after the initial presentation, in the writing of a brand new book that will hopefully grace the shelves of piano teachers the world over. We're so excited about these virtual presentations and hope that you will arrange your 2021-2022 teaching schedules in order to be a part of this day. In anticipation of Philip Johnston's presentation, we are giving APTA members the opportunity to purchase one of his books. Though the kindle edition is available on Amazon, the physical copies are very expensive ($60+) here in Canada. Philip is working with us to provide copies of "The Dynamic Studio" at a much lower rate. APTA will receive these and ship you the book for $20 ... a fantastic deal! We hope to have these to you in mid-late summer so that you can read them before September 24. We will be taking these orders until June 30, so don't delay. Information and the order form can be found at docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf_-l5ru_Fwue9F9mAk59mJ6azeP-QwckF0jETHAplu8C1XDg/viewform More information and links to register for the various sessions will be sent to members in July.
